1.   This ZIP file contains the shareware version of Versamap.

     Versamap is a Windows 3.1 program.  It can also be installed
     and run under Windows 95/98/NT(4.0).  If you find Versamap
     unsatisfactory, the program includes an uninstall option that
     allows you to remove Versamap from your hard drive.

     To encourage registration, this shareware version has 1
     limitation not found in the registered version.  In the
     shareware version, maps can only be annotated with fixed pitch
     fonts.  The registered version allows users to add text to
     maps in both proportional (such as Arial or Times New Roman)
     and fixed pitch (such as Courier New) fonts.


2.   Versamap draws outline maps on 14 map projections.  Digital
     maps supplied with Versamap include boundaries for the new
     countries formed from the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, for
     Eritrea, for Canadian Provinces, and for Australian States. 
     Versamap plots maps from World Data Bank II and from the U.S.
     Geological Survey's Digital Line Graph database.  Maps can be
     output directly to a printer; or exported as BMP, WMF, CGM,
     DXF, PIC, or ASCII files.  Text may be added to maps using any
     Windows font.  New features include rotated text in 1 degree
     increments, high quality printer output, Windows metafile
     (WMF) output.


3.   To install Versamap,

     a.   create a temporary directory (i.e. C:\JUNK) on your hard
          drive;

     b.   unzip this ZIP file in the temporary directory;

     c.   click on the File menu in the Program Manager (Windows
          3.1), or click on the Start menu (Windows 95);

     d.   select the Run option;

     e.   in the edit box, type C:\JUNK\SETUP, where JUNK is the
          name of your temporary directory;

     f.   follow the installation instructions displayed on the
          screen.

     g.   Installation of Versamap requires 4 million bytes of free
          disk space.

     h.   Once Versamap is installed you may delete the contents of
          directory C:\JUNK.


4.   Registration of Versamap entitles you to:

     a.   a copy of the most recent version of the program;

     b.   additional digital maps, including a 38,000 point world
          map;

     c.   a digital gazetteer containing the names and locations of
          over 600 major world cities;

     d.   a digital instruction manual, containing many figures,
          that can be viewed and printed from Windows Write or
          WordPad;

     e.   the opportunity to order more detailed digital map files
          from the Versamap Micro World Database, from World Data
          Bank II, and from the U.S. Geological Survey's Digital
          Line Graph database.

     Registration entitles you to support by mail, telephone, and
     electronic mail, concerning problems you encounter with
     Versamap.  You may register Versamap online by credit card at
     the Versamap web site, http://www.versamap.com.  An order
     form, REGISTER.WRI, is included in this package for persons
     wishing to register Versamap by mail, and pay by check or
     money order.
